winter self-portrait, 100% dundee

New works

A few shots of a wheatpaste and four toys/sculptures I'm painting on, to be put into a small show in the near future.

The work makes use of runes, alchemical symbols, numerology and acrostics, as well as imagery from the Bosch and Durer catalogs. I'm trying to draw parallels between punk imagery and medieval art, their use use black and white, woodcut and themes of war, elitism, government/church and state, and the way that information is hidden in both of these contrasting languages.

Mass Hypnosis Vid

Philippe has edited together a video of the installed art, with lights, from the Mass Hypnosis show.

PULSE DEMON

Here's a terribly low-res photo of the wallpaper I will be installing...one sheet doesn't really do it justice. There will be a column of this image, oscillating in two different directions simultaneously.

Also, I will play some drone, minimal techno and some pitch shifted east coast and southern rap.

I'm in a radical print show, put on by Philippe Blanchard as part of Open Studio's PRINTOPOLIS symposium.

This flyer says more than I ever could.
Basically, a sequenced lighting system is projected in different patterns over wallpapers printed in colours which respond to the lights. I will DJ slow music.

FREE DRAWINGS 7

I will be in the seventh issue of Jesjit Gill's long-running publication Free Drawings. It might be the last issue.

This is my drawing, done with hatching in pens, of myself and my cousin's grandmother, with a squirrel over our heads. Just in case that wasn't clear.

COMICS

I'm working on some very time intensive pieces right now. No scans/photos of that for a while.

In the mean time, all-around rad dude Lee Wiesblatt runs a number of blogs, and has one in which he critiques old comics, starting with the first issue of the 1960's original run of Avengers comics. I read these like mad as a kid, and Lee and I sat around and riffed on #4 recently. It's the seminal issue which sets up the return of Captain America from his disappearance post WW2.

I will be selling prints from the PURE SHIT series, and two zines/comics at The Toronto Small Press Schooner Room in the Toronto Reference Library as part of the Toronto Comic Arts Festival 2010.

OCAD Graduate Exhibition

I'm in the 95th OCAD Graduate Exhibition, opening this Thursday May 6 from 6:30 to 10 PM.

It runs until Sunday at 6 PM.

I have five pieces on display on the second floor, in room 230, a lecture hall. It's on the second floor; take the spiral staircase in the main lobby, and turn right. The hall is across from the glass doored fibre studios. I will be in Thursday, and for parts of Friday.

Enjoy! There are a lot of really great works in print and in other departments as well this year.

Heironymus Mosh

This print combines the imagery of Heironymus Bosch with 80's thrash.

I really can't tell if I'm serious anymore, but this thing is awesome.

Album # 12...or so

So, I made this mashcore album. It has a wack-tonne of samples...It's a whole lot of different artists and genres spliced together, with me filling in all the blanks and adding layers. I won't even begin to try to use genre labels on this one.

Print Exchange

This is a scan of my contribution to a print exchange with RMIT in Melbourne, Australia.

It's two layers in transparent ink, the background letters are runes explaining how the print was made.

I printed around 80 or so bags for cubeshops, a Japanese design store I have mentioned in the past. I printed designs by other illustrators, as well as one of my own.

The store is on Baldwin, just a few stores west of McCaul.
